Who can apply for the digital nomad visa in Estonia?

Any digital nomad, a location-independent worker, can choose to come to Estonia and remain in the country for one year for work purposes.

They do not need to work for an Estonian company for this to be possible; they can simply choose to apply for the Estonian digital nomad visa.

The eligibility criteria are listed below by our lawyers in Estonia:

  • persons who engage in work that can be performed independently of their location;
  • individuals who can perform their duties based on telecommunications technology;
  • those who have an ongoing employment agreement with a company registered outside the country or those who work as freelancers and have clients based largely outside the country;
  • those who can show that they have a minimum income in the 6 months preceding the application for the Estonian digital nomad visa.

How fast can I get my digital nomad visa for Estonia?

The process usually takes 30 days.

What is the minimum income threshold for the Estonian digital nomad visa?

Applicants should know that the minimum monthly income value is currently set at EUR 4,500 per month.

This is calculated in the following manner:

  • The required minimum funds when applying for a digital nomad visa for Estonia are EUR 150 per day;
  • The applicant is expected to have EUR 4,500 for the first month (150 euros per day multiplied by 30 days);
  • The applicant is not required, however, to provide proof of the entire year’s worth of income in advance when applying (that would be EUR 54,750, or 150 euros per day for 365 days).

As the visa application is reviewed independently, the decision on the minimum income can be made on a case-by-case basis, according to the proof of income provided by the applicant.

When applying for an Estonian digital nomad visa, individuals are asked to offer evidence of sufficient legal income within the past six months (i.e., the minimum amount of EUR 150).

Are there any nationality restrictions?

Restrictions are currently in place for Russian and Belarusian nationals.
